800 meter repeats: make them your best friend during marathon training. Snuggle up to them. Spoon them. Call them Bae. Why? Because they're one of the best tools to help you build speed and strength. That's because the 1/2 mile length is short enough to sustain faster turnover for the legs and long enough to build your endurance. Adding repeats strategically over the course of the cycle with the right amount of rest and you'll start to see results. As with any other part of training they don't exist in a silo, so if you want to shave time off your PR, you must be doing your easy, tempo and long runs.
